While many consider the 18-hole round standard for golf, this wasn’t always the case historically. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1970s that 18-hole rounds became dominant. Along the way, the golf industry stopped building 9-hole courses and promoting 9-hole rounds…to the eventual detriment of the game.
Reality check: A 9-hole round is a legitimate round. Both the CDGA and USGA accept 9-hole rounds for handicap calculation purposes. In our fast-paced society, the biggest deterrent to people playing more golf is TIME, not money, especially with today’s competitive pricing. Many of us can’t always find 4 or 5 hours for a round of golf. But plenty of us could find 2 or 3 hours and play some 9-hole rounds even if we can’t squeeze in the “standard” 18.
GolfVisions is embracing a “9 holes, anytime” policy, which will include some specific variations on a facility-by-facility basis. (Unfortunately, some course layouts do not lend themselves to 9-hole rounds as the first 9 goes out and the second 9 brings you back in.) We are also committed to making sure our 9-hole pricing structure reflects value similar to the 18-hole rates. For more information, visit the individual course Website or call the course for details.
